Oklahoma Adventure, Part IV: Ponca City/Stillwater

So.... quite some time ago... like August...
we went on another Oklahoma Adventure with Jeremy & Natalie.
And I didn't blog about it because I wasn't blogging at the time.
Well, now I regret that decision & I need to blog about it
so I don't forget about it.
Also, my memory is a little foggy on the details
& I'm too lazy to get the pictures off my camera so
you're just going to have to deal with the few iPhone pictures I have.

Oklahoma Adventures, Part IV:
The things you learn in Ponca City/Stillwater

1. Ponca City is just a horrible town.
We really didn't know what to do here.
We were actually really excited about this one
& have never been more disappointed.

2. The Marland Mansion tour is way too long to be enjoyable.
We're talking 3-4 hours of listening to someone that's not
entertaining talk about dead people and what kind of marble
is in the bathroom.

3. E.W. Marland was really just a creep that married his daughter.

4. When you're rich you think your bedroom even needs fancy woodwork.

5. Original saunas look like death traps.

6. The only thing I found enjoyable was this ceiling:

And the underground tunnel.

7. Stillwater thinks everything should close by 4pm on a Saturday.
All of the shops were already closed by the time we got there.
How is this possible?

8. Eskimo Joe's is actually pretty neat & tasty.
I was pretty skeptical because they're so tacky.

9. Even though it's college town, you can still find an awesome low-key bar.

What's better than girly drinks out of mason jars? Nothing.

We are definitely loooog overdue on another Oklahoma Adventure
but our best friend, Jeremy, recently became a business owner
so he's a little preoccupied at the moment.
Speaking of, everyone should support local business
and visit Dale's BBQ House on SW 119th & Western.
It really is super good & I suggest you try the mac & cheese.
& everyone definitely needs to vote daily for Dale's to win best BBQ
in Moore by clicking here!

Oklahoma Adventures, Part III: Route 66 (West)

This weekend we took a spur of the moment trip down the Historic Route 66. We traveled west through Weatherford, Clinton & Elk City. Two of our best friends, Mollie & Josh came with us and we had such a good time. Unfortunately, a lot of our lessons didn't have pictures to go with them so I'm sorry!

Oklahoma Adventures, Part III:
The things you learn on westbound ROUTE 66

1. El Reno smells like farts

2. I have family in El Reno.

3. This is what Weatherford considers "restored"
And then we realized that it always looked like crap

4. Lucille's Roadhouse might not have the best service or onion rings
BUT they were fancy with their Dyson Airblade and heated toilet seats.
(The chicken, sauce, rolls & mashed potatoes were delicious though)

5. Josh really loves seasoned salt

6. Molly is a Griffis!
The book at the Route 66 Museum says so!

7. The Indians @ the Cherokee Trade Post watched over us
when our tire went out going 70mph on I-40.

8. Small town tire places are fast and they're really nice.
So thank you Gene @ K& S Tires in Clinton, OK.

9. Dogs love me everywhere I go.
If you are ever out that way, you should check out the White Dog Restaurant
It is beautiful and rustic and heart warming. Plus you'll get to see the happiest pups in town.
Meet Beans:

He was moving so fast it was impossible to get a good picture
but he gave me an instant bath of kisses when he saw me

10. Blizzards from Dairy Queen are amazing.
But I'm still too scared to hold them upside down.
This was my first DQ experience & it was a good one!
11. The Hampton was nice but still had it's ghetto quirks
They don't know their own address (the address on the confirmation is Ramada's address)
The fridge didn't work so this is how we cooled our drinks

12. Josh is a free spirit.
I have no clue what this means but it apparently meant something to him.
13. Coconut rum with cranberry juice & sprite is amazing.

14. Oklahoma's grass has turned into Ireland's countryside.
It's so beautiful right now.

15. Semi trucks love us.
We got several to honk for us.

Things we learned that didn't get a photo:
  • Ryan has an alter ego named Rude Rectal Ryan and he hates hippies
  • Josh is a Juggalo and Mollie & I are princesses
  • Clinton loves Ron Paul
  • Elk City doesn't have a Taco Bell but they have a Maurice's?!
  • Body builders can swim in freezing pools without any hesitation
  • Limos will follow you if you make them mad

Our final destination was Elk City which is kind of funny because we didn't actually do anything there except see how ghetto it was! It was a successful trip and I can't wait to go East on Route 66 next time!

Oklahoma Adventures, Part II: The Wichitas

Due to the holidays we weren't able to go on an Oklahoma adventure in November & December so we made up for it in January.

Oklahoma Adventures, Part II:
The things you learn in THE WICHITA'S
(or surrounding areas)

1. Union City, OK loves murals

2. Gracemont, OK cops need a life
It's so wonderful starting your day with a $117 ticket.

3. Jeremy has a death wish
"I wonder what it'd be like to be strapped to one of those blades..."

4. Barns are cooler than mountains.
(Not really. This just happened by coincidence.)

5. Buffalo are tricky little devils. They disguise their poop as rocks.

6. The sight of Mollie makes Buffalo poop

7. BBQ Chips are delicious...even with cigarettes in them. ;)

8. Lady Bird likes the mountains.

9. Jeremy is a monkey.

10. It's beautiful and cold.

11. You can chill in caves. Also, Mollie is scared of caves.

12. The Holy City is creepy.

13. Throwing rocks/boulders is quality entertainment.

14. Bulls up close are terrifying.

15. In Elgin, OK honkie tonks aren't afraid to get a little emo.
(Notice the man's outrageous beard on the left. They played "Wonderwall" by Oasis.)

16. Remember an extra pair of pants.
Don't worry folks, this actually makes the size of the hole look good.
I had apparently walked around all day like this.

Things we learned that didn't get a photo were:
  • People still wear Heely's.
  • People like to floss on mountainsides.
  • We have a poop fetish.
  • Women show each other their boobs when they greet one another at bars.
  • "JEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRMMMMMYYYYY" gets annoyed.

Oklahoma Adventure, Part I: Guthrie

I am starting a reoccurring series to document our adventures of Oklahoma.
Once a month we are going to take one day trips to a random town and explore without the use of technology.

Oklahoma Adventures, Part I:
The things you learn in GUTHRIE

1. Gold heads with sunglasses are a must for front porch decor.

2. Bell-bottom jeans are awesome there.
..okay so not really but I felt awesome in them there.
3. Bars are pretty much the same... only more awesome.

4. You can play checkers at art galleries.

5. Jeremy really enjoys tractors.. Ryan.. not so much.

6. Ryan & I are the only people that smoke.

7. They don't know how to pave sidewalks.
(The sidewalk ended randomly every block or so in the neighborhoods)
8. Ryan attracts men with guns.

9. The cutest old cowboys live there.

10. People die on the streets.
